Sometimes the sun spangles and we feel alive

1. Couldn’t find a seat in the library with a plug socket for ages
2. Found a seat, had to leave a few hours later
3. Forgot my laptop cable in the library, can’t get it until Monday. They wouldn’t let me back in after 15 minutes and apparently only one person has a key, blatant lie. How awkward is that, what if she didn’t turn up one day?
   However, remembered that I have a spare cable under my bed at home, so I went home to get it
4. Bought the wrong Orange juice on the way :( had to return it on the way back to the library
5. Couldn’t find my cable anywhere at home even though I swear it was under my bed. Looked everywhere, nowhere to be seen.
6. So no laptop for me for the whole weekend. THE WHOLE WEEKEND. When I have to revise. I feel like I’m living in the 80s
7. I have to use a uni PC for my revision. A PC.
8. The PC areas are never quiet
9. Not to mention one of my books has mysteriously gone missing, last time I saw it was in first year. Realised this today.
10. What the fuck is with my life

In practically everything. And I can always predict that’s what I’ll get and if I can’t predict that then I know I’ve done badly. Oh well that’s 65% in my dissertation for 10 credits out of the way, definitely heading for a low 2:1 this year but I can’t complain, I put in an average amount of effort so I deserve it.

A political rant on election day.

I really, really, really don’t understand how anyone votes for Boris Johnson. He has LITERALLY done nothing for London, and is running his whole “campaign”, if you can call it that, on his boyish, cheerful personality. He is a celebrity MP, appearing on programmes like Top Gear to goof around, and people take him seriously! It’s unbelievable how people can confuse politics with celebrity culture so easily, people actually vote for him because he’s “funny”. Where is his policy I ask? He has actually taken London a step backwards in some ways, and the low and middle-income people are feeling the consequences.

He might try to act like a normal bloke, who cycles like the rest of us and uses public transport, but actually he’s just a member of the old boys club that makes up the key players in the Conservative party. He’s as right wing as the rest of them and does not deserve to run London. He just doesn’t get Londoner’s, but who can blame him, when he’s been privately educated all his life and kept in a lovely bubble of richness. Of course he won’t be able to understand normal people. It’s not his fault.

My first point: He has done nothing for London.

• Yes he has, he’s introduced Boris Bikes!

No. That was an idea conjured up under Ken Livingston which Boris gallantly adopted, taking all the credit for it. 

• What about the new Thameslink or the refurbishment of the Overground service?

Again, started under Livingston.

• He’s re-introduced Routemaster buses.

So what, what benefit is the general public gaining from this? I’m sure there were plenty of perfectly fine, working buses that were replaced with Routemasters, and for what? So he can spend some of the taxpayers’ money on a novelty scheme that I can personally see no point of.

Secondly: He has taken London a step backwards

• He got rid of Livingstone’s plan for a 50% target for affordable housing.
• He got rid of Livingstone’s plan for a £25 congestion charge on the most environmentally unfriendly cars (probably because he owns one).
• I’ll just say this: a 50% INCREASE in bus fares since 2008, as well as a large increase in train fares. It’s abominable, you can’t even try to pretend that was a rise with inflation. This is how you know he doesn’t understand the average person’s needs, because people on the lowest incomes can no way afford that. To get the tube to central London and back can be £7 per day, which is £35 a week and £1850 a year. Almost two grand a year for a necessity, some people earn less than £10,000 a year and are expected to pay a fifth of that on transport. But hey, at least the rich people with their cars are paying minimum congestion charge and they never have to actually take public transport. 

Some more reasons:

• He took a holiday in Turkey 3 weeks after being elected Mayor.
• He thought the 50p rate of income tax was too high. I suppose he got his wish. 
• He gets paid £250,000 a year to write in the Torygraph. Anyone else think that’s a little bit too much?
• His majority last election was in a rich suburb of London where they are still very dependent on their cars. Johnson get his votes from high earners and stands up for them, when the majority of people in London are on a very middle-low income. 

In conclusion, Boris Johnson sucks balls. 

THe UniLad Facebook page put up a photo of a girl wearing only a thong throwing up into a toilet, there were loads of vulgar, pervy comments on it, and I just thought “there’s no way she gave her permission for this, it’s so humiliating. Just because she was so drunk doesn’t mean she deserves this” so I reported the page and the photo. Go feminism.

I literally can’t see why that kind of thing has become the norm in society, to humiliate girls when they’re in a state like that. She’d obviously met a guy on a night out and went back to his and that had happened and the first thing he thought was “I think I’ll just take a photo of this situation and show the world”. In no way does anyone deserve that, just because she was throwing up and was probably so drunk she didn’t know what was going on, it doesn’t mean she deserved that at all. I’m sure that many/most of the people on that page probably think she DID deserve it which is why they’re all making “funny”, vulgar comments. Why is that actually acceptable these days, no one seems to bat an eyelid at behaviour like that. It just objectifies and degrades women, and it seems like many males and even some females nowadays feel that that is perfectly fine.

/Rant. I’ll just stop shaving my legs and go and become a radical lesbian now.
